Fate of Infidels

The night was icy, and Marion shivered as the wind cut right through her. Huddling deeper into her fur coat, she tapped quickly across the sidewalk, her cold hands fumbling with the keys to the apartment complex. A smile crossed her lips as she searched for the proper key, shaking as she stood on the front steps of the apartment building. Her body was shaking, but she felt warm as she remembered the last few times she had met Chris here, away from her husband. She finally found the key, and with a trembling hand, inserted it into the lock. It took a moment of struggling to get it to turn, but it was accomplished, and Marion slipped into the building, the heavy door clicking shut behind her. Hurrying across the dingy lobby, she darted into a vacant elevator and pushed the proper button, leaning back against the sticky wall as the doors closed, heedless of the damage to her expensive fur. A shiver ran through her body as she remembered the last passionate encounter with Chris, and she sighed softly. It was gratifying to know that he couldn’t go a week without being with her, she thought as she idly watched the elevator’s progress. Marion’s foot, in the expensive Italian shoes her husband had purchased for her the previous week, began to tap as the elevator seemed to slow down. Her handsome face in a frown, she punched at the button again with a manicured nail, and smiled triumphantly as it began to move up again. The doors finally slid open, and Marion tapped out into the dim hall, her eyes alight with anticipation. The number to the apartment, that damn 42, had fallen again, and now the 2 hung at an odd angle. Marion couldn’t help but feel a measure of unease, as she always felt that this advertised what that particular apartment was for. She paused to straighten the errant number, and a familiar sound caught her ear. Leaning forward, she listened quietly, and then her eyes narrowed. The sound of Chris grunting in the throes of passion was too familiar to her to be mistaken. Angry now, she fumbled with her keyring, and then practically shoved the key into the lock, opening the deadbolt with nothing less than lethal force. Flinging the door open, she stalked into the room, her fur carelessly tossed aside as she made her way to the bedroom. When she opened that door, she was stunned by what she saw.
Chris, covered with a sheen of sweat, was being ridden by a woman so stunning Marion could do little more than gape in astonishment. Long, rose-red coloured loose curls were plastered to the woman’s curvaceous body with sweat, and when she looked up at the intrusion, her peacock-blue eyes glittered with triumph in a face the envy of any angel. Marion suddenly felt inadequate with her dark brown spiked cut and ch0colate-coloured eyes. Her frame was nowhere near as curved, and she was at least six inches shorter. For a moment, her stance sagged, and then she straightened.
” What the hell is going on here?! Chris! What do you think you’re doing?!” The strongly built man, his dark blonde hair damp with sweat, looked up in shock.
” Marion! I…uh…I didn’t think you were going to be here today!” Her expression was livid as she strode forward, her hands clenched into fists.
” Obviously! Who is this tramp?” Chris’s face didn’t change as he looked from the woman staring at him to the woman who was still astride him. The woman smiled at Marion, making the smaller woman shiver with something very akin to fear.
” Don’t be angry Marion.” The woman’s voice was an absolute purr, but it made Marion wince. ” I asked Chris if he would like some company. He couldn’t resist….” Her smile was still the same, but a hint of icy satisfaction glinted in her lovely blue eyes. Marion nearly relented, but straightened in anger.
” You, you tramp, get off of him right now! And as for you Christopher! You’re FIRED.” The last word was said with great vehemence as she stepped back from the bed, allowing the redhead to slide off of Chris and stand on the floor. Her smile hadn’t changed, and it made Marion angry. ” What are you smiling about?” The woman continued to smile, and stepped forward to offer her delicate hand.
” Perhaps introductions would cut the tension a bit. My name is Lucinda, Marion.” Marion had to pause for a moment, and keep herself together. The woman’s charm was disarming, and made her heart beat faster. She frowned, and turned to Chris.
” What were you thinking, bringing her here?” Chris gave Marion a rather wan smile and tried to stand up.
” I..I don’t know. It was convienient.” Marion’s eyes flashed, and she stepped forward in anger.
” You cheating bastard!” Her hand was upraised to strike him, but Lucinda’s voice stopped her dead.
” Hold.” Her voice was like an Arctic wind, cutting brutally to the bone. Marion’s eyes were glinting when she turned to the beautiful woman, but her eyes faded in comparison to the glittering peacock blue of Lucinda’s eyes. ” You dare strike one that I have chosen?” Her smile revealed fangs that looked to be razor sharp. She glided forward as gracefully as if her hips were ball bearings. Her smile was frighteningly intense, and very chilling. With a sharp movement, she caught Marion by her slender throat and pinned the smaller woman to the wall, her feet dangling over two feet off the floor. ” You trifle with things you do not understand.” Lucinda’s eyes glowed a piercing blue, and Marion attempted to scream. The sharp sound was cut off by Lucinda’s lips pressed firmly to hers, keeping her silent. Before Chris’s eyes, the color left Marion’s face and her body became limp, dangling from Lucinda’s hand. The kiss ended, and Lucinda let Marion’s body fall to the floor. The thud didn’t bring Chris back to his senses, for he had long since fainted.
Hours later, Lucinda straightened her hair, and quickly rifled through Marion’s purse, reading the address on the driver’s license with a smile.
” Really? Well, the poor man can’t come home to an empty house.” Rising, she slipped into her clothing, and donned Marion’s fur coat, stepping quietly from the apartment and locking the door behind her. Humming softly, she tapped down the hall, the elevator doors closing quietly behind her.
